Kontena has successfully delivered the first of many HPC EDGE-600 data room containers for Nscale’s project in Glomfjord. The 45ft unit, designed to handle 600kW with full redundancy, navigated the narrow Norwegian tunnels to reach its destination.
This EDGE-HPC data room integrates the ICE-HPC cooling unit, part of the KONNECT HPC Ecosystem, ensuring optimal temperature control for high-performance computing. The solution provides modular scalability, setting the foundation for future deployments.
Glomfjord, a small industrial town of 1,000 residents located just above the Arctic Circle in northern Norway, has long relied on the 120MW hydro plant built over a century ago. With its abundant, renewable energy, cold climate, and reliable connectivity, the location is ideally suited for high-performance computing (HPC) and AI infrastructure. As a result, Glomfjord offers the perfect environment to support the energy-intensive computational needs of modern AI applications, while also benefiting from a stable and sustainable power supply.
This is just the beginning. Nine more EDGE-600 data room containers and five Docker units will soon be delivered, connecting the EDGE data units into a fully modular data center environment. This project showcases the advantages of a scalable, modular design for the next generation of data centers.
We thank our dedicated team and partners for reaching this important milestone. Together, we continue to push the boundaries of modular data center technology, with more updates on the way.
