We are excited to announce the successful delivery and deployment of two ICE – HPC Cooling Units to a client operating an AI data center in the Nordic region. These units will integrate into their high-performance computing (HPC) setup, which already includes two EDGE – HPC Data Rooms and a DOCKER unit, both from our KONNECT HPC ecosystem. The EDGE units provide 1128U of available rack space and 1200kW of redundant power.
Handling cooling and heat is essential for maintaining optimal performance in HPC operations, as inadequate cooling can lead to overheating, reduced efficiency, and potential hardware damage. Proper temperature control ensures consistent performance, energy efficiency, and system longevity, essential for high-demand AI and HPC workloads.
The cooling unit integrates both the adiabatic cooling system and the pump set. Based on weather conditions, it can function in either wet or dry mode. In wet mode, a UV sterilization system prevents the growth of Legionella. Energy-efficient operation is ensured by variable EC fans and drive-controlled pumps, which also help reduce noise levels by up to 20 dB.
Kontena designed the entire cooling loop with redundancy, ensuring continuous operation even during maintenance or malfunctions. Multiple sensors (pressure, temperature, glycol level, ..) enables continuously tracking of the system status. Kontena’s Whistler software manages monitoring and control of the entire HPC system. Both dry cooler and pump skid are mounted on a single open container frame, stackable on top of the EDGE unit for reduced installation footprint.
In keeping with Kontena’s commitment to providing end-to-end service, we also took care of the transport. The unit was carefully loaded onto a deep loader truck using a telescope crane and then transported to Norway. Kontena collaborated with a transport partner specializing in Nordic deliveries to ensure safe handling and timely delivery.
